VUSD Make-a-Thon: Ms. Welter and Mrs. Alpeche took our 5th Grade Gifted and Advanced Learning Cluster class to the Make-a-Thon where they presented their projects on how to solve a problem they identified in their community 🌎

This week we had our April Class Buddy Day! Our buddies worked together on math problems to help the three billy goats gruff escape the troll under the bridge! Our older grade buddies were amazing examples of responsible technology use to their younger buddy! Today we had the senior parade from Mica Mountain High School. It was amazing to celebrate the accomplishments of these students during their time in Vail. Many DWE students and staff had family members that we celebrated today!

We had another amazing spring we at DWE! We had chicks hatching in Mrs. Park's class (and ducklings coming soon!). We also had our last Diamondbuck Store of the year! A huge thank you to the parent and student volunteers who helped run the store and to Mrs. "Coolman" for the huge undertaking of planning and organizing the store every month!

Spring has sprung at Desert Willow! We had many classes personifying peeps and some of our kindergarten classes released butterflies after studying the life cycle of a butterfly over the past few weeks.

Last weekend our PTA hosted our Family Prom and it was a blast! A huge thank you to the PTA members that organized and put on this amazing time.
During school this week to change up AASA test prep, one 5th grade class had a Glow Day! They reviewed math concepts from this year under a black light with highlighters so they could see their work!
Even though next week will be a short week, there are still so many things going on. We will have our last round of state testing so please check when your student will be testing!
We were so lucky to have seniors from Mica Mountain here at Desert Willow on Wednesday! As a part of their Senior Service Project they were on campus a few hours and supported learning in many classrooms across campus and even had some fun with our PE classes. Thank you so much Mica Mountain for sharing your wonderful students with us!

This week we celebrated our students' accomplishments during the 3rd Quarter at our Caught in the ACT Assemblies. We had the students sit with their grade level buddy at the assemblies and it was so neat to see the connections that our students have made across grade levels as they celebrated their buddies!
On Tuesday DWE wore mismatched socks to Observed World Down Syndrome Day! Since we were on Spring Break on World Down Syndrome Day, 3/21.

Our last week before Spring Break was an adventure for sure! We had the Slime Assembly on Monday; and our AASA Snack, Strategies, and Support night yesterday. Today we had a cold Field Day this morning before the rain (don't worry 3rd-5th grade Field Day will be rescheduled!). Then to end our day we had Starbase graduation for Mrs. Adkins' class, Mrs. Rios' class, and Ms. Welter's class! We hope that you all have a safe and restful Spring Break Diamondbacks and we will see you back on March 24th!
