Dear Parents,

As we look to the start of the second semester, I want to make you aware of changes that have occurred related to COVID protocols over the past two weeks.

On December 22nd the Pima County Board of Supervisors adopted a face covering resolution.

This resolution is in effect through the end of February. The specific language in the resolution states that, “The primary focus of enforcement is education and promotion of best practices…”

We have and will continue to stress the importance of wearing a face covering indoors. In the spirit of the resolution, we encourage you to consider sending your children to school with a properly fitting face covering.

Most importantly, if your child has any symptoms of COVID please keep him/her home, notify the respective school, and arrange to get tested.

On December 27 the CDC shortened the recommended isolation and quarantine period.

Key Components to the new CDC recommendations:

COVID positive individuals, regardless of vaccination status, should isolate and/or quarantine for at least 5 days. If a COVID positive person has no symptoms after 5 days, he/she may exit isolation/quarantine if continuing to wear a face covering around people for an additional 5 days.
Individuals identified as Close Contacts to a COVID positive person are divided into two groups: 1) Those who are fully vaccinated and up to date with a booster shot if it has been 6 or more months since receiving the full 2-shot course and 2) People who are unvaccinated or are outside of 6 months from being fully vaccinated.
- Fully vaccinated & up to date individuals do not need to isolate or quarantine, but they will be required to wear a mask around people for 10 days and take a COVID test on day 5 from initial contact.
- Unvaccinated individuals or individuals who are beyond 6 months from being fully vaccinated must isolate/quarantine for 5 days & test on day 5 from initial contact.

We have been working with the Pima County Health Department to update our protocols to provide guidance to parents and students. You can find updated guidance on our website at: https://www.vailschooldistrict.org/page/covid-information.

The changes are reflected on pages 2-5 of the document. Our intent is to begin to implement these protocols with the start of the new semester.
