Vail's A

Vail’s children are achieving at incredible levels! The State Board of Education released letter grades for schools and districts. While letter grades represent just one measure of a school’s quality, they are a strong indicator of academic performance of students and our schools, particularly in key areas like math and English/Language Arts.

Teaching and learning are VUSD’s core functions as an organization. So, how did Vail do? VUSD has once again earned an “A” rating.

21 of our schools are eligible for a school label. Our district-wide GPA is 3.81 this year! It is incredibly rare for districts and charter systems that have more than ten schools to earn more than a 3.75.

This accomplishment places Vail among the highest-performing districts in the state. Here are a few exciting highlights from the recent grade release:

  • VUSD earned a district-wide 3.81 GPA… an increase of .05 over last year!

  • Of districts with ten or more schools, Vail tied several districts for the second spot at a 3.8 with only one district earning a 3.9.

  • Three of our schools earned more than 100% of their points towards their label by earning bonus points. Congratulations to Mesquite, Andrada, and Empire!

  • Corona Foothills Middle School retains its ranking as the top regular middle school in the state for the fourth year!

Letter grades are just one measure of excellence. By all measures, including school labels, your children are obtaining a quality education. What is our secret sauce? Well, it is certainly a mixture of quality educators delivering outstanding instruction, hard working students, and supportive families, but what truly sets Vail apart is the fact that this community, like no other I have known, truly is a place “Where Education Is a Community Effort.” For over thirty years, our community has supported a budget override that provides additional teachers and resources that help children in our community thrive. Everyone, whether it is parents, grandparents, extended family, friends, neighbors, and our many retired community members unite around children. We all show up, cheer on, and vote in favor of education. We all own a piece of this exciting news!

Congratulations to each of you, for the role you play to ensure Vail’s children receive a high quality education. Way to go Vail!
