What is High School Choice?

The Vail School District believes in providing parents with a choice of the high school that their children attend. We have created six unique high schools from which you can choose. Through this process, you will have the opportunity to learn more about each of the high schools and choose the school that is the best fit for your child.

Parents will submit their HS choice rankings online through the High School Choice Portal in February. Submissions can be entered and changed multiple times while the portal is open. This process is not first come, first serve. All choices made while the online portal is open are treated equally.

You will need your parent PowerSchool username and password to access the portal. If you are experiencing sign-in issues, please contact your child's middle school for assistance.

All families will be notified of the results by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, March 8, 2024 via email.

Any family who lives in the VUSD boundaries but did not send their 8th grade student to a Vail school should reach out to Amy Castle, District Enrollment Concierge, to make their choices.

All out-of-district families who would like to apply for Open Enrollment can fill out an application here by March 1.

How Does 8th Grade HS Choice Work?

MMHS

The process is really quite simple.

Step 1: Take your 8th grader to visit the campuses and get a feel for each one. Take tours, ask questions, and meet the principals, teachers, and staff while there.

Step 2: Parents determine their 1st, 2nd, and 3rd choices.

Step 3: Parents log in to the High School Choice Portal and make their selections. The Portal opens February 1st and closes February 16th. A lottery will be held March 5th if needed.

Step 4: Families are informed of the placements on March 8th.
